When was the last time you asked why?
It seems the older and older people get the daily “why?” so to speak, disappears. Occasionally people will come back to the there whys when something awful happens. Many people will say and think things like why did this happen to me or why is god doing this to me or even why does this always happen to me. Yikes. That last one can be pretty dangerous. I say don’t dwell there; close that door, lock it and destroy the key. Ok back to my point.
I believe that instead of losing our sense of why, we need to evolve past the basic questions that can be easily answered. One of the more important whys we can ask is why am I doing _____. In some of my readings I have come across various ways to categorize our motivators and have found the following to be the most accurate list.
Positive
The emotion of Love
The emotion of Sex
The desire for Material Gain
The desire for Self-Preservation
The desire for Freedom of Body and Mind
The desire for Perpetuation of Life After Death
Negative
The emotion of Anger and Revenge
The emotion of Fear
-exert from Grow Rich with Peace of Mind
Then the next step would be to observe these motivational sources and see where that takes us.
I look forward to all question and comments on this topic.
In summary tu tu tuusick says,
“Don’t forget to pause and ask why, then dive a little deeper in that question.”
So, every now and then I like to watch video game trailers. I wish I could play more, but I just don’t see the value in investing hours, day or weeks and not having anything from it. There’s a lot I wish to do with this life and I don’t think I can play video games everyday like I want to and truly give it my best shot. That aside, Square Enix is my favorite video game company and I absolutely love the final fantasy series. My personal favorite and all time favorite game is Final Fantasy VIII. I like the series because I’m kind of a hopeless romantic and the FF series is all about the love stories. Below I have included some of my favorites. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Oh, right, watch at your own risk because there are some perfect endings.
"Somewhere along the path of life, every successful man finds out how to live his own life as he wishes to live it.
I believe the only thing that has made America prosperous and successful since the conception of its idea has to do with the values of the people with in it and holding up that idea. I also think that every generation has its own sets of beliefs and I fear for my generation. What generation am I apart of? I was born in 1986 putting me, more or less, right in the middle of Y.
Ok. Ok. This isn’t a fear in the sense that I think all hell is going to break loose and everything our forefathers have created will be gone. I view myself and my peers as being more open, tolerant and expressive than just about any other group of people in world history and a lot of good can come out of that. We also have grown up with tech and use it. My dabbling in the workplace has been a major headache because Xers and Boomers simply don’t communicate the way I do. I just wish they would do a little more im and video conferencing, or at least not have to call every time I send an email to just make sure it was received. I get my facebook, email, youtube, twitter, complete internet access and this blog all off my phone. (not to mention all the texts) At the same time this extreme level of communication and access to knowledge has removed a lot of the mystery to life and how everything works.
So, why am I concerned? There seems to be a huge loss of faith. For centuries moral codes and beliefs have come from religion. I personally agree with just about all the major religions’ core concepts. Without this moral code instilled in us, things like lying, theft, murder and other sins, for lack of a better word, become options. You do a little risk assessment, view the possible outcomes and weigh them against the risks and make your choices based off of personal gain. Before you write the whole idea off, pause and think about. If you were not told an act is wrong do you think you would still believe it to be so? Life becomes very different if there is nothing after death. One has to grab whatever he can as quick as he can by any means and try to ensure his offspring can get some of it.
Side Note: Personally believe there is a god and only through his grace can we really accomplish anything. Believe that is part of the reason why there is so much more self distraction in Y gens then some of the others, we think we can do it on our own.
Instead of ending with a conclusion I purpose a question.
Do think this new high tech, lack of faith world we are starting to enter will be sustainable in the long run?
Supposedly this recession crap is over, right?!?!?!
For some reason it seems that many people seem to be stuck. I still hear from friends and business colleagues that times are rough. Well, I say shut up and stop making excuses. I started a business in February 2007 and it hasn’t been easy, but I’ve been growing every year and it has nothing to do with me being smarter, better positioned, more inventive or lucky. The reason why I have been successful is because I have had faith in what’s possible and haven’t been making excuses for my set backs. If you lost your job, your business or your investment portfolio, big F-ing deal.
What now?... that’s real question. If everyone would stop blaming the economy and stop thinking about how they been a victim we would be out of this thing so much quicker. If you lost your job then learn a new skill, get better at what you do, or start out on your own (either freelance or start your own business). If you have lost your investments then figure out how to make more with what you have. The most successful people on the planet learn from their past, accept their current state and plan for the future. If you lost your business, then I have a little more sympathy for you than everyone else because at least you have tried to do something with your life, but you must keep going.
Here is my solution to this whole mess. Every time you have a thought about how tough or hard life go buy something that can yield you more money, something that can save you money or something real cheap. This will help increase the velocity of money and help increase our GDP. Now I know this is a simple solution and there’s a lot more too it, but the point is don’t get stuck on what has happen, look forward to what can.
Thanks.
I hope to hear your thought and I’ll be expressing mine again soon.
